World War 1

We have been learning about world war 1 in my class. Here are the questions that I answered.

Who did the jobs when the men went to fight?
In world war 1 many men left New Zealand to go and fight, which meant that lots of jobs were
left unattended. So many women would have had to tend to the jobs, which would have been
a big change of scenery for the woman at the time. Also the young boys in the village would
have to step up to the challenge while men were at work

Why did they need gas masks?

In world war 1 there were a large number of gas attacks that killed or blinded many men,
so as you can see it would be a necessity to surviving.

Tuto’atasi by Damon Salesa

Tuto’atasi is a true story about what happened in Samoa from 1900-1962. In 1900 foreign
rulers from America, Europe and Germany decided that they would take over the
Samoan land and split it in two [ the European and German side and the American
side,] which did not sit well with the Samoan people,  so in 1907 they retaliated by
peaceful protesting. The German officials did not like this and punished in hash ways.
In 1962 Samoa was officially an independent country.

A trick

W.A.L.T:  Write a descriptive narrative

Success Criteria:
  • Needs to describe the characters and setting

  • Needs to have the structure of a Narrative: introduction, problem, solution.

  • Needs to have humor

Personal goal: maintain audience interest

One cold icey morning as I strolled through the mystical forest with trees as tall
as the eiffel tower and a river that sparkled like stars in the night and flows like
lightning strikes, I heard a shrill scream that made my soul cry. It sounded like
someone was fighting for their life I kept going because I wanted to see if I
could help. As I got closer I could hear a petite girl telling someone to stay
away and put it down repetitively. You could hear in her voice that she was
frightened but there was a sense of determination like she was going to get
through this no matter what.

When I got closer I peered around the angelic tree that flowed with the wind
and saw a girl sitting on the frozen, solid ground tied up in a thick rope stained
with the blood of others before her. It didn’t take much to see the cuts on her
face, with blood slowly oozing out of them, one of them one of the cuts lay
inches away from her silky mud like eyes that told her every emotion, like a
books tells a story. Meters away stood a large man with his back turned, he
was working at a table one of his freakishly large hands was in a bag as white
as fresh snow [which I found unusual because if he was going to kill or injure
her surely the blood would show.] Next to the bag lay a knife that was as
far-reaching as a new a pencil but you could tell that it would easily slit your
wrist. The man slowly raised his hand out of the bag, he held in his hand a gun.
I heard a gasp of air coming from the child , when I glanced over I saw a tear
rolled down her face she new that this would be the end.

But this was not the end for her I would get her out of this. As he pointed the
gun at her I chucked to silver stones at him, one at his head and one at his
hand he dropped the gun on the autumn ground. Swiftly but silently when his
back was turned I kicked the back of his knee,  grabbed his head and swang
him to the ground. When he was down I kicked him repeatedly. Then went
over to the table grabbed the knife walked rapidly over to the girl with the knife
to my side trying not to scare her. She tried to move away but I grabbed the
rope and cut cut her free before she said anything. Tears filled her eyes she
was so grateful.

Bang! Gunshot. I suddenly realised that I forgot to take the gun. I slowly turn to
see the man on his knees his nose running like a red waterfall the gun pointed
at me with a smug look on his face.i can feel an excruciating pain in my leg. I
look down to see that a bullet went in my leg and there was now a hole filled
with blood. I did my best to get the girl  behind a tree but I didn't need to help her,
when I looked back she was limping behind a tree.

I ran toward him as fast as I could ignoring the pain in my leg he fires but
misses me then i tackle him to the ground with all my might punch him until he
lets go of the gun. Then grabbed the gun and shot him in the head three times.
I give a sigh of relief [it’s over].

I turn around and expect to see her smiling but she wasn't , instead she had
a terrible look on her face. Then the excitement wore off reality hits  I collapse
to the ground he didn't miss in fact he shot me in the chest. I lay my head in
the autumn leaves raise my head to the sky and breath in what might be my
last breath then i hear a type of chuckle coming from the girl she smiles a
smug look just like the man then she says “we got you”.

Thank you for reading I hope you enjoyed it and I would love to hear your

comments.

The Great Barrier Reef by Sarah Wilcox

This book was about how global warming is affecting many coral reefs around the world. The water is warming up which affects the coral reef in many ways one of those ways is coral bleaching, which is when the coral turns white and apart of it dies inside. It can come back to life after many years but that may not happen in the future as there are many storms that can hit the coral and permanently injure them.

History

History

I am here to say why I strongly believe history should be compulsory in primary schools
and how it may benefit us.

In the past we as a country have made many mistakes, wouldn’t it be great if we could right
those wrongs? History can help us improve our mishaps because recognising it is the first step
to improving it.

Have you ever felt lost? Like you do not belong? Learning Aotearoa history can help you belong,
feel like you are apart of history. You might find something you never knew before.

History to me is not old people who did stuff it is amazing people who have done great things for
the world, like Kate Sheppard who got woman to vote in New Zealand or William shakespeare a
famous poet, playwright and actor. Learning this is important because people do great things
that school students should know because maybe just maybe knowing this will inspire children
to do great things for the world.

So in conclusion, I believe that history should be compulsory in primary schools, so we can
change our mistakes, feel like we have a connection and inspire school students. History is a
big part of everyday life you make choices that can change history.
